Today I’m going to talk about the magical world I have created. A world that coexists with ours. It’s hidden from our world by magical barriers that were created centuries ago. This hidden region is the kingdom of Leda.
Leda in the present
Now a days Leda is a peaceful kingdom.
A king is elected every five years. They have a small parliament where they discuss all the problems that kingdom has and where they settle the disputes and misunderstandings between races. Most races live peacefully. From time to time there is conflict or discord between races, but they always resolve their differences. Leda has three regions that aren’t directly under the king's rule. Two of those regions are governed by the same two vampires all the time. They don’t have elections like the rest of Leda, but both of these governors answer to the king.
One of them is a ill tempered vampire that likes conflict but he has learned that in modern times he has to adapt. His name is Valter. His region is Regnavast.
The other one is Lady Ryia, a compassionate but strong vampire and ruler. Her region Vaine, is one of the most prosperous in all of Leda. She likes to take care of her people, and she is loved and respected among them.
The third region that isn’t directly governed by the king is the region of the amazons. They have their own queen that like the king is elected every five years.
Races that live in Leda
There are five races that live in Leda.
Humans
All humans that live in Leda have magic whether is a lot or a little. Some of them are powerful and some need the help of potions to be able to do spell or enchantments. For example: a doctor that is powerful can cure with spells while a doctor that isn’t powerful uses potions to heal people. They both can heal people but the powerful doctor has a slight advantage.
Vampires
Vampires are creatures of the night, like the classic vampires, they cannot be outside in daylight except in cloudy winter days when the sky is so grey that the light can get through.
Vampires are stronger than the other races. Sunlight, silver and being stab on the heart can kill them. They don’t like garlic but it doesn’t kill them. Vampires normally live in communities and the have a leader that they obey.
Werewolves
They can be men or women. They live in towns and city but they are always part of a pack and like the wolfs they have an alfa. Werewolves can transform completely into wolves or do half transformation, half human- half wolf. With a half transformation they walk on two legs and there are more aware of what they are doing. They are stronger and faster than humans, but not more than vampires. Their weaknesses are silver, being injured on the heart or the brain.
Cloud people
Cloud people technically don’t technically live in Leda,but above it, in the sky. They are spirits of the clouds they can manipulate the weather but they cannot created. They rarely come down but when they do it has to be with a weather element: lightning, fog, rain... They can have a physical body but they prefer to remain in spirit form. You can see their mood change because as the clouds the change the colour, they change the colour of their skin to darker tones if they are angry or upset. They are faster than vampires because they can be as fast as the wind, but they are as strong as humans. As far as the other races know they can only be killed when they have a physical body.
Duarsens
Duarsens are a peaceful, kind and generous race. They live longer than humans. They can reach the age of three hundred, and they age slower than humans. Duarsens can heal like vampire and werewolves. They are faster and stronger than humans but less than vampires. They have similar strength and speed to werewolves. They can only be kill if they are stab on the heart. Duarsens have two bodies and one mind that controls both bodies. When they reach the age of one hundred is when they start the process of making another body. This is a difficult time for duarsens, it takes about two months, and during that time they isolate themselves in places similar to monasteries.
The kingdom’s past
At the beginning non-magical people and magical people lived together in the same land. It wasn’t a peaceful coexistence. They were always at war or in conflict. Non-magical people wanted to dominate, so they started pursuing magical beings. They wanted them under their control. To do this they created the Inquisition in 1250 A.D.
The magical races weren’t united. Werewolves lived in packs, vampires had their own communities, duarsens lived in their villages. They all lived separate, and they minded their on business.
The Inquisition was just an excuse to hunt down magical people and creatures and get them under control. The first few years they didn’t realised what was happening. Magical people started going missing, others were accused of crimes they hadn’t committed.
Then they realised that all magical beings should unite and defend themselves.
They got organised. The cloud people were the messengers because they were the fastest.
The most powerful mages started working on barriers that would separate them from the non-magical people.
Vampires and werewolves were the warriors, making sure the mages could create the barriers without trouble.
The seers were the ones that alerted everyone if trouble was coming or from any incoming attacks.
Some duarsens helped with the magical barriers while other magical people that was not powerful enough to create the barriers were bringing all magical creatures to these safe places they were creating. The barriers were to separate them, to protect them but they also had another propose. The barriers that they were creating were position in parallel one to another, so in the case that a non-magical person would cross a barrier, it would travel through to the parallel barrier and appeared on the other side, outside the barrier. That´s the reason the map of Leda is different to traditional maps.
Magical people could travel in and out the barriers as they pleased.
It took them a hundred years to finish the barriers. They hid this large region within Europe.
What later on, it would become the kingdom of Leda.
