Parcial Solar Eclipse!

Writer's picture: Julia Del Olmo LealJulia Del Olmo Leal

This month there will be a solar eclipse. This one will be a little bit different, it’s called annular eclipse. It’s a solar eclipses but the moon is a its furthest point from Earth, that makes the shadow that casts over the Earth a bit smaller. That also means that the sun won’t be completely obscured. It will be look like a ring. They also called it ring of fire.

10th June

The eclipse will be seen in the North Pole (part of Canada, Greenland and Siberia) on 10th June. It will be a partial eclipse in the UK, Spain and most of Europe. As well as in some parts of the US. We can see it from 11am to 1:35pm Central Europe Time.

The picture shows how it will be seen in different parts of the world.

Careful, do not look through a telescope or binoculars without proper filters.

Use solar eclipse glasses (they can be bought in opticians or you can find them in Amazon too), or make a hole in a box to see it reflect it on the opposite wall where a solar eclipse will be reflected or use colander. Some people have been using colanders to see the eclipse, you must reflect the shadow on a smooth surface to see properly.

A partial eclipse is an amazing opportunity to get some good pictures not just with total solar eclipse. Like these pictures I took back on 21st March 2015.

I took these photos with a Canon camera. I am not a professional photographer, but I must say the photos are great!

The pictures where you see the sun in orange colour, it's because I use my solar eclipse glasses for the camera. I put the glasses in front of the lenses. It did work!! I got some really good photos. The last picture I took without the glasses, it was cloudy that day so the cloud stop all the light from coming through and I was able to take a pretty good photo.

If you would like to see the eclipse, it will be streaming https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/map/2021-june-10

Enjoy the eclipse!
