For the upcoming meteor shower you will need a few things that will make your experience much comfortable.

A dark sky on the top of the image with a meteor going down, low in the horizon, the sky is lighter and there is a windmill in the middle of the picture.

Yoga matt or blanket

If you are planning to lay down on the ground these items would be useful. Laying down will help for the observations when you watch a large section of the sky, like in meteor showers.

Binoculars

This is optional. If you want to look at different things in the sky, take them with you. If you are just wanting to watch to meteor shower, you don't need it.

Sky chart or mobile app

These are helpful to know where the meteor shower originates from. That will be the place where you will see most of the stars. If you have an iPhone Sky Guide is a great app and is free.

Lots of enthusiasm and patience

It might take a little bit of time until you see the first one, so be patient. It takes your eyes about 30 minutes to adapt to the dark and see better.

Red light

If you are thinking of taking a light with you to be aware of your surroundings, make sure it is red. A red light helps your eyes to adapt better for night vision conditions.

Just for girls

Guys can skip ahead.

If you are in an unknown area, be careful. Take precautions, because is night and dark. I have an alarm for girls, just in case. Tell someone where you are going, stay safe.

Hot drinks

In winter, it is a good idea to have a warm beverage with you for those cold nights. I love a hot cup of cocoa.

If it is summer, a nice cool drink will be nice.

I hope you find this post useful for the next time you want to look at the night sky.

Happy observing Night-sky watcher!
